Adult Social Services are required by law to keep a register of deaf and hearing impaired and deaf blind people.
Registration is voluntary and you do not have to be registered to ask for help with hearing problems. If you register it may help you to qualify for some benefits.
If you wish to register, ask your GP for more information as you may need to have an appointment arranged for you to visit the hospital for an examination by the audiologist. If you already attend the hospital about your hearing talk to your consultant doctor about whether you can be registered.
If you are entitled to be registered a form will be filled in by the doctor and sent to Adult Social Services, you will then be offered an appointment by the hearing impaired team, who will discuss with you what help you may need.
