A View for the Future

On Saturday 19 May 2007, a public event was held at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington for all registered visually impared people in the town. Its aim was to find out what people thought about the services available them, what could be improved and how this should be done. Overall the day was a great success.

Talking Books Service

The RNIB has a library of books recorded on audio cassettes and compact discs. A special machine, supplied to members, is needed to play these tapes. For more information contact the RNIB at the following address:

Adult Social Services can arrange membership for you and may be able to pay your membership fee. Once you are a member, you can exchange cassettes free of charge by post.

 

Travel and Mobility

If, as a result of your assessment by the rehabilitation officer, it is identified that you would benefit from training to assist you to get about more safely, then mobility training may be offered. As an alternative you may wish to discuss other options such as the Guide Dogs Association (see the Links page for further details).

People with a visual impairment may be entitled to disabled persons car badges for use in cars in which they travel and also concessionary bus passes.
