Safeguarding Adults

Darlington Borough Council, Health services and the Police have a duty to protect vulnerable adults from abuse.

Adults most at risk of abuse are those individuals aged 18 years and over, who may be in need of extra support because they are elderly or have a learning disability, physical impairment, sensory impairment or a mental health problem and who are, or may be, unable to take care of themselves or unable to protect themselves against harm.

These pages tell you about what abuse is, what you can do if you suspect someone is being abused and what the Council will do next. Information about safeguarding children (anyone under the age of 18) can be found at the Safeguarding Children Board pages

Information can either be found by clicking on the relevant image below, or by selecting from the menu down the left hand side.
