Adaptations and Equipment

Adult Social Care can provide advice and information on adaptations and equipment to your home to enable you to maintain your independence.


Adaptations

Following an assessment where small adaptations are required, for example, grab rails, handrails, half steps, and stair rails, these are provided free of charge.

Where an assessment has identified the need for larger adaptations, for example, stairlifts or bathroom conversions to accommodate a level access shower, will require a recommendation to Care and Repair Darlington [external link] or the Housing Department and a financial assessment will be carried out to determine whether you are eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant.


Aids & Equipment

Following an assessment of your needs, Adult Social Care may also provide small pieces of equipment for areas of daily living, such as bathrooms, toilets, bedrooms, living areas and kitchens. Examples of equipment which can be issued includes bath seats, chair raisers and raised toilet seats These items are also provided free of charge.
