Supporting People
Supporting People funds housing related support services to help people live as independently as possible.
To receive a Supporting People grant, you need to be receiving Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit. You can also get a Supporting People grant if you have had a successful Financial Assessment.
To receive housing related support you need to have direct housing responsibilities (either own your own home or have a tenancy of your own).
If you don’t have Housing Benefit or a successful Financial Assessment you can still have the support, but you will have to pay for the support yourself.
Everyone who receives a Supporting People grant will have a support plan, this shows what support goals a person has, and what outcomes they would like to achieve.
Support is delivered by assisting, guiding and prompting, and not by doing tasks on behalf of a person.
A persons support tasks might include:
- Help with budgeting
- Signposting to services, community activities, education, training and employment
- Filling in forms/accessing services
- Prompting to stay safe
- Guidance with maintaining a healthy lifestyle
