Housing Related Support

The Supporting People programme is Government funding of housing related support services for vulnerable people aged 16 and above.

The aim of the Supporting People programme is to give vulnerable people the opportunity to improve their quality of life, by providing high quality housing related support services, to allow them to live independently.

The Supporting People Team in Darlington work in partnership with Adult Social Care, Health, Probation, support providers (both local and national), and clients to promote these high quality services.

What is Housing Related Support?

Housing Related support gives you advise and support in your home. This can include help with things such as:

  • Provision of an community alarm service, or warden call service
  • Helping you to manage your tenancy
  • Helping you to pay bills, and to manage your money
  • Giving advise about claiming benefits
  • Telling you about other agencies, that may be able to help you, and giving you support to talk to, or go to meetings with them
  • Helping you with life skills to live independently

Housing related support does not provide support with personal care such as washing and dressing. You can visit the Support to live at home webpages where you will find information about getting someone to help you with daily tasks, or visit the A Place to Live webpages which gives information on Extra Care Schemes.

How is Housing Related Support delivered?

Housing related support can be delivered through accommodation based services, or through floating support services.

  • Accommodation based services are linked to a property or scheme, this may be specialist accommodation such as sheltered housing or hostels.
  • Floating Support is provided in your own home, by support staff who visit you there. If you move, your Floating Support will move with you.
