Purpose
Darlington Safeguarding Children Board is the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how the relevant organisations will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in Darlington and for ensuring that this is done effectively.
Objectives

To review how well local services work together to safeguard children.

To monitor the effectiveness of agencies' statutory duties to co-operate under section 11 of the Children Act 2004.

To develop and agree local policies and procedures for inter-agency child protection work.

To help develop good working relationships between different professional groups, based on trust and mutual understanding.

To make sure that any lessons learned locally or nationally are shared, understood and acted upon.

To carry out serious case reviews where a child has died and abuse or neglect has been confirmed or suspected. In certain circumstances, a serious case review may also take place where a child has been seriously harmed.

To make training available as needed, to improve the quality of child protection work and of inter-agency working.

To raise awareness within the wider community of the need to safeguard children.
