Residents Associations
Being part of a Residents Association is a great way to make things happen in your area.
Have a say in how your estate is managed and how the housing and repair service you receive can be improved.
Joining an association is not just about getting involved in housing matters; it can help you to get to know your neighbours better and build community spirit and trust.
You could gain new skills, increase your self-confidence, take pride in making things happen and feel a greater part of your community.
How Do I Join an Association?
There are currently Residents Associations in:
If you wish to join an existing group contact the Tenant Empowerment Team, on 01325 388515 who can introduce you to one of the group members and provide details of the next meeting.
What If There Isn't An Association In My Area?
Some areas may not be covered by an existing association. Resident Associations are usually formed by a few residents coming together as they have a collective interest or concerns about issues in an area. By sharing ideas with friends and neighbours an association can be formed to put forward its views to Housing Services.
Will It Cost Me Anything?
No. The Council provides financial assistance to all recognised Tenants and Resident Associations to assist with costs such as venue hire and printing. There are also other forms of external funding from Central Government and other organisations that we can put you in touch with.
Will I Need Any Training?
We are keen that tenants are empowered to contribute effectively to service development and consequently will provide all necessary training, arranged both internally and through specialist external agencies who provide a range of training opportunities, and conference events.
Our Commitment
We listen to what is said and act upon it. We attend and support all of the residents associations, and hold monthly coffee mornings for those living in our sheltered accommodation.
We contribute to the many newsletters that the above associations write as well as the Council's Hot News which is a quarterly publication for all tenants and leaseholders.
