Adaptations
These can range from a single grab rail by the bath to enable you to get in and out of the bath safely, or a grab rail at the front door, to a stairlift or bathroom conversion.
Receiving the Service
You will need to be assessed by an Occupational Therapist so that the most appropriate adaptation is recommended.

What Happens if an Adaptation is Recommended?
Council Tenants
Adaptations are provided free of charge and you will be visited by a Housing Officer to discuss proposals with you.
Housing Association Tenants
The adaptation may be funded by:
- The Housing Association
- Successfully applying for a Disabled Facilities Grant from Care and Repair Darlington
- Paid for by yourself
Owner Occupiers or Privately Rented Housing
Your recommendation will be forwarded to Care and Repair Darlington by your Occupational Therapist. They will identify if you are eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant to help pay for the adaptation. All grants are means tested. This means that you may be required to contribute towards the cost of the work.

How Quickly is an Assessment Carried Out?
Normally within 28 days from receiving the referral, although a priority system is also operated.
