Moving to a More Suitable Home

Are you having difficulty in your home because of a disability?

There are many ways in which we can help you.

If your present home no longer meets your needs we may be able to find alternative more suitable accommodation.

  • Should you wish to apply for housing from Darlington Borough Council you will need to complete a Housing Application form and a Supplementary Housing Application Form detailing your individual needs.
  • Housing Application form - pdf document - Complete the form and return it to your local Housing Office.  Upon receipt of the application form a Housing Officer will contact you to arrange a visit to your home.
  • If you are unable to complete the housing application form please contact your local Housing Office who will arrange for an Officer to visit you in your home and assist you to complete the application form.

What Happens Next?

A Housing Officer will visit you to discuss your current situation and any special requirements you have.   They maybe many questions asked, some maybe pesonal to your health problems.

An appointment can be made so you can have a family member present if necessary.

We may need to confirm details with your GP, or specialist.  But you will be informed of this beforehand.

We may also request the help of a Social Services Occupational Therapist, they provide help, advice and support on equipment and adaptations, which you may need.

They can help you decide if your home cannot be adapted and give advice on a more suitable type of property.

What Type of Properties Do we Have?
