New Developments

New developments are very exciting for both the Supporting People Team and the residents of Darlington. All new schemes which are brought on line have been identified in our 5 Year Strategy, and they are services which were previously missing in Darlington.

Due to budget restrictions not all services identified can be commissioned, but as and when we are able to do so, we will advise you of their progress on these pages.

Below are the two most recent additions to the Supporting People portfolio of services.

People affected by domestic abuse

This is the most recent contract awarded and it went to Carr Gomm [external site]

The service is based on the floating support model and is available to people living in all types of accommodation - privately rented, home owners, local authority tenants. Men as well as women can also be supported through the service.

For more information on the service please contact Maria Hammond on 01325 382570

Young people leaving care

This supported lodgings contract was awarded to Barnardo's [external site].

Supported lodgings offers a unique style of support whereby the service user lives as part of a 'hosts' own household. A support worker from Barnados then offers support to the 'host' and to the service user.

We have contracted for 6 units and the aim is to provide a safe & supportive environment which offers the opportunity to develop the necessary skills for independent living.

The eligibility criteria to access the service is:

  • Aged 18/19
  • Currently under the care of Darlington Borough Council's leaving care team
  • Require support to live independently
  • Be capable of developing independent living skills
