Supporting People

As part of the Supporting people review of housing related support services for people with learning disabilities, we are wishing to obtain the views of Carer's, please see below for details

Carer's forum

Most of us aim to be able to live independently in the place we choose, but this is not always possible for everyone because some people need additional support.

This additional support might be needed because people are homeless, have a drug or alcohol dependency, or are a victim of domestic abuse. Alternatively they could have a sensory, physical or learning disability.

Supporting People is there to give these people the opportunity to live as independently as possible.

There are many links listed on the left hand side of this page which will allow you to learn more about what Supporting People is, and how it could help you, or someone you know retain or improve their independence.

Supporting People want your views…..

Supporting People are reviewing the housing related support services they fund in Darlington which are available for people with a learning disability. Housing related support is help that you can get to help you live independently.

This can include things like:

§         help with managing money and paying bills

§         help with understanding what it means to have a tenancy agreement

§         support to help you to access education, employment or training

§         support to help you to develop cooking and other life skills

This review will think about:

§         current and future housing related support needs

§         how to deliver this in line with Supporting People goals & strategies

§         how to make sure our housing related support service is right, and

§         will support you to live independently.

The Supporting People team want to know your views on what kind of service we should have.  To do this we are planning to do a number of things, such as:

§         hold small focus groups with people with learning disability throughout July -
this will include both people who currently get housing related support funded through Supporting People and people who do not

§         send out a questionnaire to carers during the week of 7th July

§         invite other interested people (stakeholders) to contribute their views
