Is my application approved?
If the Exchange is approved you will be invited to your local housing office to sign up for your new tenancy. A suitable date will be agreed for your move and an appointment will be made for the gas/electric services to be checked.
How do I pay my rent?
You will be issued with a new payment card following your signing of the new tenancy agreement. This will be sent to you in the post.
If you are in receipt of Housing Benefit it will be necessary to re-apply from your new address immediately because Housing Benefit will automatically cease.
What am I responsible for?
You will be responsible for:

Arranging your removals.

Collecting the keys to your new home from the tenant you are exchanging with.

Checking the gas and electric meters and arranging for the gas and electric to be switched on.

The future maintenance of any hardstanding, gate, garage, pigeon loft, TV Aeriel or similar structure erected by a former tenant.

Changing your insurance.

Re-registering for the garden tidy scheme, if applicable.

Re-registering with mobile warden scheme, if applicable.
Should you wish to remain on the transfer list you will be required to complete a new application form. Your application will be registered from the date of receipt.
Will I get any compensation?
Upon terminating your previous tenancy, provided you have received written permission from the Council to undertake imporvements which were completed after 1 April 1994 you may be eligible for compensation. Only certain improvements are eligible for compensation and an application for compensation must be made to your local housing office within 14 days of your tenancy terminating.
