Paying your rent
It is important that you pay your rent, and any service charges, on time as this money pays for the services you receive.
Your weekly rent covers the cost of providing you with your home including repairs and maintenance.
The service charge you pay depends on the services you receive and how much they cost to provide.
How and Where Can I Pay My Rent?
- Pay your rent online or view your balance on MyDarlington+
- Any Post Office of your choice
- Dolphin Centre any week day evening between 5.15pm – 8.30pm
- Dolphin Centre on a Saturday 1.00pm – 4.00pm
- Dolphin Centre on a Sunday 9.00am – 4.00pm
- Payment by credit or debit card by calling 01325 389898
- If your rent account is up to date you can pay by direct debit
- You can pay by standing order [pdf document], but you must contact your Management Officer to confirm your payments
What will my reference number be?
This will be the 9 digit Tenancy Number shown on the bottom right hand side of your Girobank Plastic Card
Can Someone Else Pay on My Behalf?
No problem - providing you trust them with your card and let them know how much to pay, but it is your responsibility to check the payment has been made.
When Will my Payment Reach my Account?
Your account will be updated overnight. However payments made on a Friday will not show on your account until the Monday of the new rent week.
How Will I Know What My Balance Is?
The Post Office can't supply you with a balance on your account. The Council will supply a statement of your rent on quarterly basis detailing the payment you have made and the current balance. In addition you can request this information from us.

Data Protection
In order to protect you we are only able to discuss your rent account directly with you, unless we have your authorisation to speak to a third person on your behalf.
If you would like to authorise someone to speak on your behalf you must complete an Access to Personal Information form, sign it and return to Housing Services.
