How Much Discount Will I Get?

The amount of discount that you will get depends on how long you have been a tenant, but there is a maximum amount you can receive and this is £75,000 as of 2nd April 2012.

Secure and Public Sector tenants in existence before 18/01/05 (the tenancy must be secure at time of application)

  • House - 32% after 2 years and 1% for each complete year up to a maximum of 60% discount for 30 years occupancy
  • Flat - 44% after 2 years + 2% for each subsequent year up to a maximum of 70% discount for 15 years of occupancy.

New Public Sector Tenants after 18/01/05 (once the tenancy becomes secure)

  • House - 35% after five years and 1% for each complete year up to a maximum of 60% discount for 30 years occupancy.
  • Flat - 50% after 5 years +2% for each subsequent year up to a maximum of 70% discount for 15 years occupancy.

What if I Have Purchased Under the Right to Buy Scheme Before?

The amount of discount you received previously will be deducted from your discount when you buy again.
