Extra Care

Do you need a little extra care?

Extra care schemes provide all the normal facilities of sheltered housing together with additional support and care from an on-site care team.

What Extra Facilities are Available?

Extra Care Schemes provide housing for elderly or disabled residents who require more specialised amenities and greater support than is usually available.  The schemes have special features including easy access for people with disabilities or who are in a wheelchair.

These sites also have:

  • On site care team
  • An on site lunchtime catering team
  • Kitchen and Dining room
  • Hair Salon
  • Health and exercise room
  • Health and beauty room

Meals

A hot two course lunch is provided every day  for all residents and served in the dining hall. The menu is wide and varied and changes on a 4-weekly basis. Lunch and dessert is available for only £3.50 for residents and £4.10 for visitors to the scheme and you only have to give 24 hours notice to invite family and friends. (Special events please enquire for price as it may vary)

Please note that all new tenants to the schemes are eligible for the costs of the meals and the payment is not subject to any housing benefit reduction.

How To Apply

All applicants need to complete a housing application form and an Extra Care Form.

The application will be processed and passed to the Access and Contact Team at Social Services

A Community Care Assessment is carried out by Adult Services, which will assist with the allocation process.

An allocation meeting is held on a monthly basis, where Officers determine from all the information collected if the applicant is of:

  • High
  • Medium
  • Low Care Need

At present priority is given to those whose needs come under high level of care needed, hence it is unlikely, at present, that those with a moderate or low level need will be offered a vacancy in the near future.

All applicants who have been identified as having a high care need will be invited to look around the scheme.

The list will change on a month-to-month basis as new people are added to the list and as some care needs change.
