Sheltered Housing
Sheltered housing is a group of unfurnished apartments or bungalows, specially designed and built for people who are able to live an independent life, but would benefit from additional security and support.
The property is fitted with an alarm system that will enable you to contact help in an emergency, 24 hours per day. In addition you receive daily contact with your Scheme or Mobile Manager Monday to Friday to ensure your wellbeing.
The individual property may also have special features to aid independent living such as level access showers.
Sheltered Housing Schemes may have communal facilities such as a lounge, kitchen, coffee bar, laundry, hair salon, therapy room, a shop and at some sites a meal is served each lunchtime. There may be a Guest Room where relatives or friends can stay for a small charge.
Good Neighbour Sheltered
These are individual unfurnished apartments and bungalows all in the same area or complex. They offer a good community spirit, neighbours of a similar age group and your own external door.
Most schemes have a communal lounge for social activities together with gardens, security and safety features. All schemes have a dedicated manager. Each property is also linked to Darlington's Control Centre ensuring a response 24/7 and in an emergency we call upon Darlington's team of Lifeline Response officers to attend when your Scheme Manager is off duty.
