No Smoking
ALL communal areas in Council-run sheltered housing are non-smoking.
Following extensive consultation with residents, the ban was brought in on January 1 2007.
The Council believes a smoke-free policy is key to protecting the health of tenants, employees and the wider community.
The ban, which is supported by the Tenants Board and Housing Executive Committee, covers all communal areas including lounges and kitchens, reception areas, lobbies and toilet areas, laundries, bathing suites, meeting rooms, hair salons and corridors.
Tenants can still smoke outside the building or in their own flats, but are asked not to leave their doors open.
Advice and support is available to anyone wishing to give up smoking from the Primary Care Trust’s Smoking Cessation Service. Call (01325) 746131 or 746114.
