Dine in Darlington

Oven in Darlington

With over a hundred restaurants, bars and cafés to choose from in Darlington, it is the place to eat-out in the North East.

To help residents and visitors to the town select the perfect venue for any occasion Darlington Borough Council's eating out guide, 'dine in Darlington' puts the town on the gastronomic map.

One of the featured businesses is 'Oven', in Duke Street, which opened in 2006 to rave reviews in national and regional press.

Owner Tarek Thoma says Darlington was an ideal place to open his restaurant, because he realised that there were no other businesses specialising in contemporary English and French cuisine in the area.

Before coming to Darlington Mr Thoma worked at the Dun Cow in Sedgefield, where he cooked for the world’s most powerful man – George W Bush when he visited the Prime Minister Tony Blair at his constituency home in 2003.

He said: “In Darlington there is a really wide variety of places to eat: Italian, Indian – everything you can think of, and many really good restaurants, it really is an excellent place to eat out, it’s as good, if not better, than Yarm or anywhere else in the North East".

Councillor Stella Robson, said: “'dine in Darlington' is an excellent guide to all the different places to eat in the town – and there are so many good places, it will be difficult to choose between them.

“Hopefully local people will use this guide when they are looking for the perfect place to eat out – whatever the occasion.

“For visitors to the town it will be really useful, as it details lots of different kinds of places to eat, with information about the kinds of food available, average prices, car parking facilities, and if they do children’s meals and vegetarian dishes. It really is very comprehensive.”
