This year, Darlington's Covered Market Hall and Clock Tower celebrates its 150th anniversary.
To mark the event, we are holding a Victorian-themed weekend of fun, activities and events in the Market Square and Covered Market Hall:
Friday 7th June 10am - 4pm - Darlington's Victorian Market Hall & Market Square
Celebrations will commence from the Old Town Hall balcony, from which King George V and Queen Mary stood in 1913.
On Friday there will be Victorian themed fun & entertainment for all the family, including:
- Arrival of the Ox Roast
- Celebration beer tent
- Victorian celebration & cutting of the birthday cake
- Town Crier and Town Twinning dignitaries
- Victorian workshops
- Victorian carousel and swing boats
- Old Victorian style fair games
- Victorian characters
- Tours of the market building & clock tower
- Treasure hunt
- Music and entertainment
Saturday 8th June 10am - 4pm - Darlington's Victorian Market Hall & Market Square
This day will see the unveiling of the Ox Roast, which was last done to celebrate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary in 1913.
On Saturday there will be Victorian themed fun & entertainment for all the family, including:
- Unveiling of the Ox Roast
- Celebration beer tent
- Victorian celebration
- Town Crier and honoured guest speeches
- Victorian workshops
- Victorian carousel and swing boats
- Old Victorian style fair games
- Punch & Judy, balloon modelling and face painting
- Victorian characters
- Tours of the market building & clock tower
- Treasure hunt
- Music and entertainment
