Work Experience
The Civic Theatre and Arts Centre have a number of work experience placements available each year to young people who have a passion for the Arts, and want to gain experience of working in a busy theatre and Arts Centre.
Please note due to the Arts Centre closing in July 2012 we are not taking any further work experience placements until the next School year. If you are looking for a work experience placement from September 2012 please contact us from August 2012.
Darlington Civic Theatre and Arts Centre are not producing theatres. This means we not produce our own plays so we do not have a creative company of actors, performers, and directors rehearsing for shows at our venues, and we do not design and make any sets. To this extent we can't promise that all the activity you will get involved in will be creative.
Based within the Arts Development Team, your work experience placement will cover all areas of The Arts Centre’s usual operations: Technical, Marketing, Front of House and Participation. You will have an Arts Award accredited work pack to complete during the course of the week to document your experiences and activities as well as allowing
you the opportunity to try and plan your own.
This work experience placement is appropriate for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the arts/cultural sector either in the planning/ management/ marketing side or in the more practical sense as an artist/ performer/ technician as we can, to some extent, adjust the program as long as we have prior notice.
This opportunity is open to students in year 10 and 11 and with advance notice we will try to accommodate dates arranged by schools. We are also able in some cases to offer work placements for older students however these must be organised on a bespoke basis directly with a member of the Arts Development Team.
