Darlington Borough Art Collection is a fantastic collection of artworks with a large variety of subject matter, medium and style. The collection spans over 150 years and features work by local, national and international artists and it has been acquired over many years through donation, bequest and purchase.
The Public Catalogue Foundation recently catalogued the collection as part of a national project set up to photograph and record all oil, acrylic and tempera paintings in publicly owned collection throughout the UK. The foundations aim is to increase public access to publicly owned paintings by producing a series of high quality affordable catalogues on a county basis.
Darlington Borough Art Collection is featured in the County Durham Catalogue and this has provided an additional opportunity to increase public access to the oils and acrylics in the collection and celebrate the artworks we have in Darlington. Darlington Borough Art Collection has been exhibited in The Myles Meehan Gallery, at Crown Street Library and displayed in publicly accessible buildings in Darlington including the Town Hall and Dolphin Centre.
The County Durham Catalogue is available to view and purchase from the Arts Centre Reception for £15.
