Procedure for the Lounge Gallery and Glass Corridoor

Artists and groups wishing to exhibit at Darlington Arts Centre should send Julie Revell, Visual and Public Art Officer:

  • a short outline of what media the artwork is (photography, print, drawing, installation
  • Some quality photographs / slides or a CD with images of the artwork.
  • A clear exhibition application of what is being exhibited including an exhibition title.

A reply by letter as to whether the application has been successful will be sent out. All slides / photographs / CDs will be returned

  • Priority will be given to artists and groups that demonstrate exciting and innovative artwork
  • All artwork must be original and not been exhibited in this venue before
  • Exhibitions are between 4 – 6 weeks
  • All artwork must be fit for exhibition (framed and centrally mirror-plated)
  • The artist must take personal responsibility if artwork is to be hung using alternative fixings. The venue recommends that frames be of professional exhibitions standard (such as solid wood). Again if exhibitors wish to use
alternative frames then this is the responsibility of the exhibitor. The Arts
Centre Technical team can offer advice on this matter.
  • It is the responsibility of the exhibitor(s) to deliver the artwork to the venue
  • The exhibitor(s) will work with the Visual Arts technician to organize the hanging / display of the artwork
  • Please provide value in pounds sterling of the exhibition as a whole for our insurance department at least 2 weeks prior to your exhibition get-in date.
  • If exhibitors wish to organize a preview, this has to be co-ordinated with the Arts Centre Duty Managers and reception staff at least 2 weeks before the exhibition and should be held between 12.00-2.00pm or 6.00-8.00pm.
  •  Artists may also attach a storage holder to the wall (where suitable and agreed by technicians) in which to place their business cards and postcards
  • The venue cannot take responsibility for damage to artwork that is not professionally framed using solid wood frames
  •  The exhibition may be included in our “What’s on” brochure, but due to limited space there is no guarantee of this.
  • The day after the exhibition is finished all artwork must be collected from the venue promptly at an agreed time as there is no facility for storing artwork
  • If the exhibition is a selling exhibition the Arts Centre will take 20% commission + VAT on any sales.
