Photographs by Harry Hammond

For nearly two decades Harry Hammond was Britain’s leading showbiz photographer. Starting in the late 1940s, he captured the definitive images of virtually every leading British musician, as well as those of many visiting American artists.

From Tommy Steele to the Beatles, Shirley Bassey to Dusty Springfield, Harry Hammond captured the emergence of the British rock ‘n’ rollers. First circulated through New Music Express (NME), his work has set the standard of pop photography for he following generations.

This exhibition comprises over eighty photographs by Harry Hammond which take us back to the birth of British Rock.

‘Today’s paparazzi seem intent to present their subjects in the worst possible light. In the days of Harry Hammond, photographers only wanted to show the best of you. I guess that’s why it was always such a pleasure to have Harry Hammond. ’ - Sir Cliff Richard
