Policy and Procedure for the Myles Meehan Gallery

Gallery Policy
- To support new and emerging Northern professional practising artists.
- To programme one national exhibition each year.
- To deliver 4 weeks of educational / outreach activity each year.
- To broaden and develop understanding of contemporary art.
- To continue to raise the profile of the gallery programme in a local and regional context.
Procedure
- Artists invited to exhibit must be professional practising artists.
- Before a meeting with the Visual and Public Arts Officer can be arranged, all applicants must submit an exhibition proposal, which includes the following:
- A clear and concise statement about the proposed exhibition including the exhibition title, theme of the exhibition, style and medium of the work.
- A selection of quality JPEG images on CD or photographs.
- A current CV outlining previous exhibitions and commissions.
- If the exhibition is short-listed a meeting will be arranged with the Visual and Public Arts Officer to discuss the possibility of an exhibition.
- The Artist(s) will then be contacted in writing to confirm whether the application has been accepted. If the exhibition is not accepted then all CDs and supporting information will only be returned with the letter if a paid postage, addressed envelope is included with the exhibition application.
- The decision made is final and there is no appeal system. If a new body of work is undertaken then this can be submitted, following this procedure.
- An exhibition is formally offered when exhibition dates have been finalised in writing and a copy of this document will be sent out with the confirmation letter. Exhibitors must confirm acceptance of the exhibition in writing within three weeks of receiving the finalised exhibition dates.
- All exhibitions are curated by the Visual and Public Arts Officer.
- All artwork must be fit for exhibition and must be securely fixed whilst on display (framed and mirror-plated).
- All technical issues must be discussed in detail with the Visual Arts Technical Team at least 12 weeks before the exhibition begins.
- The Artist(s) must supply quality images and an exhibition statement to the Visual and Public Arts Officer for press releases and preview cards at least 8 weeks before the exhibition begins.
- The venue covers the fee for the preview cards, publicity and insurance of the artwork.
- The venue will pay the artist(s) an Exhibition Payment Right.
- Exhibitions are from 6 – 8 weeks at the discretion of the Visual and Public Arts Officer.
- It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to transport and insure all artwork to and from the venue. The venue may make a contribution to the transport costs within reason.
- Three days from a Monday to Wednesday are arranged for the installation of the exhibition. All exhibitions should be delivered on the Monday before 12noon unless otherwise agreed in writing eight weeks before the exhibition begins.
- Previews are held on a Thursday evening between 6 - 8pm or lunchtime 12 noon – 2pm.
- If the exhibition is a selling show then the gallery will take a 30% commission + VAT (VAT is chargeable on the commission only).
- The exhibition must be collected promptly from the venue on the Monday after the exhibition finishes, as the venue has no facility to store artwork.
