Boulder Climbing Wall
Darlington's first climbing boulder was opened on 13 September 2007 and has been installed at Eastbourne Sports Complex with funding from Barclays Spaces for Sport and Darlington Borough Council. The boulder is an artificial rock designed for climbing. Special techniques are used to navigate around the boulder, which is intended for beginners; however, allows progression to develop climbing skills and take on new challenges. The boulder is an open access facility; people of all ages and abilities are welcome to come and climb for free. Specialist climbing shoes and helmets are available for hire.
Barclays Spaces for Sport
These are funding taster sessions instructed by qualified staff on the boulder for schools and groups. To find out whether you are eligible for this fantastic opportunity, contact us on 01325 243177.
Play Park
Eastbourne Sports Complex now has a brand new play park, as well as its existing one. The new play park has been designed to be accessible for all, including children with disabilities. There are 5 new pieces of equipment including a zip wire and under each piece of equipment is soft flooring that allows the grass to grow through so it looks natural but provides the soft flooring required. There is also a track that runs around the mound that is made up of the same material. You will also find a set of steps; these have been put there for wheel chair users to practice on but also for skateboards and bike riders to use. The park has already been hugely popular and we have seen an increase in children using the facility.
Within the grounds of the Complex there is a children's play park for children aged 8 and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult and the park is free of charge. The park has swings, a slide, a roundabout and much more.
