Family Initiative Supporting Children's Health

The Family Initiative Supporting Children's Health (FISCH) project is a collaboration between Darlington Borough Council and NHS County Durham and Darlington [external link].  FISCH promotes healthy lifestyles to children within Darlington schools and assists families in leading healthier, more active lives. The project delivers a programme of work to school age children offering them extra fun activities both during and after the school day.  We aim to support people get active and stay healthy, reducing childhood obesity and its related health problems.

  • Promotes fun physical activity and healthy lifestyles
  • Contributes to reducing childhood obesity
  • Works with schools to increase physical activity during and after school hours
  • Works in partnership with other agencies who support children’s health
  • Offers families a programme of support to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle

Since the beginning of the project FISCH has delivered to the majority of schools in the town.

Junior One Life (JOL)

Junior One Life is a 10 week programme that aims to support families of children and young people aged between 7 and 13 years to make healthier choices around food and physical activity, and includes cooking, education and activity sessions.

FISCH and JOL:

  • Promote fun physical activity and healthy lifestyles
  • Contribute to reducing childhood obesity
  • Work in partnership with other agencies who support children's health
  • Offer families a programme of support to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
