The Compassionate Friends

The Compassionate Friends are a nationwide organisation supporting parents, grandparents and siblings after the death of a child, of any age and any cause.  Services include support groups, one-to-one support and befriending. Within the organisation we also have support groups for parents whose child has been murdered (PoMC), parents whose child has died through suicide (SoS), for childless parents and for bereaved siblings (SIBBS).

CRUSE Bereavement Care Support and Resource Centre - Darlington Branch

Provides free support for all age groups in the locality on a free and confidential basis. Specialist Support is given to: children and young people, those bereaved by traumatic death and people with learning difficulties. The branch also offers support to the local community by offering training courses in bereavement counselling and listening skills

Darlington Crematorium

Within the grounds of our West Cemetery, first cremation taking place in 1901, Darlington has just one crematorium and is managed by Darlington Borough Council.

Cardboard and wicker coffins are readily accepted in Darlington for those who are conscious of the environment.  Nationally there are Woodland Burial areas that are sensitive to the environment.  For further information on where these are situated call our Cemetery office.

Housing Benefit

If you are in receipt of housing or council tax benefit and your partner or another member of your household dies, you must tell the Housing Benefit section straight away. St Teresa's Hospice Bereavement Service

The bereavement service is available to partners, relatives and carers of those who have died of a terminal illness.  The service is available on two levels: Drop in sessions and one-to-one bereavement counselling from a trained counsellor.
