Commitment Ceremonies are ceremonies which may be conducted in any of  our 8 licenced venues, for couple who wish to demonstrate their commitment  to one another and who cannot or may not wish to marry.

Copy Certificates

Copies of current and historic registration (Birth, Death or Marriage) entries for the Darlington Registration District can be obtained from the Register Office upon application for a prescribed fee.

Giving Notice to Marry

If you are getting married in a Register Office, Licenced Venue or Non Conformist Church, you will need to contact the Superintendent Registrar in the District where you live.  If you are getting married in the Church of England or Wales, you should speak to your Vicar first.

Housing Benefit

If you get Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit and you get married or your partner comes to live with you, you must tell the Housing Benefit section straight away.

 

If you and your partner need help with your housing costs, you may be entitled to Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit.  If you would like to claim or enquire about Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit, contact us.

Housing Information - Change of Circumstances

If you are a Council tenant or on the Darlington Borough Council Housing Waiting List, we need to know about your change of circumstance.  We will need to see a copy of your Marriage Certificate and you will be required to sign a form confirming your change of name if appropriate.

Re-Registering a Birth

Under certain circumstances, when a baby's parents marry but were not married to each other at the time of the baby's birth, the birth will need to be re-registered.

Rolling Registration
What is the electoral register?

The electoral register is the list of everyone who is registered to vote.  You must be on the register to vote at elections.  You are not automatically registered, even if you pay Council Tax. You can register to vote at any time.  If you’ve moved house, or if you have changed your name, then you should fill in a rolling registration form.
