Eastbourne Learning Centre

All Centres offer the following learning resources for drop in sessions under the help and guidance of Centre Staff.  CLAIT, CLAIT Plus, IBT2 work packs, DCOT Learning Community On-line programmes, Learn Direct paper based CD ROM and UK On-line materials.  Taught programmes are also available at these and a number of outreach centres.

A non profit making organisation which exists to help members develop their communication skills, overcome shyness and build the confidence to take on leadership positions.  It is particularly useful for members who have to make public speeches or give presentations.

Ken Hoole Study Centre

Based at the Darlington Railway Centre & Museum, the Ken Hoole Study Centre houses the reference collection left by Ken Hoole, a renowned regional railway historian. It was his strong desire that his collection would be made available in Darlington for public use. The collection is a unique resource devoted to the railways of North East England.

Opening Times:

Monday 10.00am to 12.00pm and 12.30pm to 4.30pm
Wednesday 12.30pm to 4.30pm
Friday 12.30pm to 4.30pm
Second Saturday in the month 10.00am to 12.00pm and 12.30pm to 4.30pm
Closed Bank Holidays

Please book an appointment as the study centre can only accommodate a few people at a time.

Kids & Co

Kids and Co Childcare service is operated by the Early Years Service with Darlington Borough Council Education Department. The service is provided at a number of sites in Darlington All settings are open 51 weeks of the year excluding bank holidays. Full day, morning and afternoon sessions are available.

Northern Grid for Learning

The Northern Grid for Learning is a consortium of all twelve Local Education Authorities (LEAs) within the Northern Region in association with Cumbria and Lancashire.  It has negotiated commercial partnerships with local and national ICT organisations to promote best value for schools and learning across the region. Established in 1999 the Northern Grid for Learning has produced high quality content for schools.  This content is delivered to schools through the Northern Grid’s website which aims to provide resources and on-line learning activities for teachers and pupils.

Private Day Nurseries

Private Day nurseries provide childcare for babies as young as six weeks to pre-school 4 year olds. Some also provide care for older children after school hours. Normal hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. all year round (50 weeks of the year)

Toddler Groups are usually held in local Community Centres/Church Halls and usually take place once or twice a week. It is an opportunity for parents/carers to meet and children to mix. Parents/Carers must stay with the children.

Train Facilities

Darlington’s mainline railway station at Bank Top is on the east coast main line.  Local train services stop at both Bank Top and North Road stations in Darlington and Dinsdale in Middleton St. George. Services link all major and local towns and cities. Cycle parking stands and/or lockers are available at all 3 stations.
