Business Continuity in the Voluntary Sector

Why does the Voluntary Sector need Business Continuity?
The Voluntary Sector in Darlington provides a huge range of vitally important services. An enormous number of people depend upon the Voluntary Sector for their health, welfare and quality of life. A resilient Voluntary Sector is very much in the interests of all the parties concerned.
Is the Voluntary Sector more vulnerable than any other?
As a whole the Voluntary Sector tends to be more precarious in terms of its funding needs and its staffing requirements.
What should a basic Business Continuity Plan contain?
A basic plan should contain:
- A Business Impact Analysis – this means nothing more than what you do and what you need to do it with in terms of people and resources.
- A Recovery Plan – what are you going to do if you have a crucial business interruption?
- A Training and Exercising Plan – in other words, checking to make sure that your Plan works
- Key contact details for staff, suppliers and key stakeholders
Why does this concern Darlington Borough Council?
The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a statutory responsibility upon the Council to promote Business Continuity in the Voluntary Sector.
