The Statutory Development Plan
The statutory development plan for Darlington Borough comprises the saved policies of the Darlington Local Plan, and the regional spatial strategy, read together. Other plans and policies which were previously part of the development plan expired on 27 September 2007 or 15th July 2008 (see Note on Expired Plans and Policies).

Supplementary Planning Guidance and Documents
Some Borough of Darlington Local Plan policies have been supplemented by guidance on matters of detail. The following Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) have been adopted by the Council following public consultation:
The Emerging Development Plan
Work is underway to update the development plan, in accord with the new planning system. Development Plan Documents will replace the existing local plan as part of The Local Development Framework.
Obtaining Documents
Paper copies of published documents can be viewed at the Town Hall, Darlington during normal office hours (8:45am - 4:45pm Monday - Thursdays, 8:45am - 4:15pm Fridays).
The Borough of Darlington Local Plan is available for purchase in paper format (£53, add £4 if postage is required) or as CD-ROM (£20, postage free). Payment is required with order. Please make cheques payable to Darlington Borough Council.
