Strategic Flood Risk Assessment

SFRA Level 1

JBA Consulting produced the Darlington Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) Level 1 in 2009. There are three volumes each with their own purpose and intended audience. Map A1 shows the flood risk zones for the Borough.

SFRA Level 2

The Level 2 SFRA [pdf document] for the Town Centre Fringe area was completed by JBA Consulting in October 2010. It assesses the flood risk in the area (Map A2 [pdf document]) and sets out several options to mitigate flood risk across the wider area. It also identifies which parts of the Borough are at higher risk from surface water flooding (Map B1 [pdf document]). All planning applications and planning proposals for the Town Centre Fringe must take account of the information in the Level 2 SFRA.

Both documents contain detailed maps showing which should be looked at when making a planning application:

  • floodzones;
  • flood depth;
  • climate change sensitivity;
  • flood risk management measures;
  • areas vulnerable to surface water flooding, and;
  • watercourses.

Due to the large number and size of these maps it has not been possible to make them all available on this webpage.  If you would like more information on the SFRA, or to request maps, please contact us on 01325 388644, or email planning.policy@darlington.gov.uk
