Tees Valley Hotel Futures Report 2009

The hotel development consultancy Hotel Solutions were commissioned in June 2008 by the Tees Valley local authorities, including Darlington, and the marketing body Visit Tees Valley to carry out an assessment of the future potential for hotel development in the city region.

The purpose was:

  • to help inform planning policy formulation for hotel development in local development frameworks (LDFs);
  • to contribute market evidence to guide strategies for hotel development as part of the key regeneration schemes; and,
  • to aid the identification of other requirements for public sector intervention to support the development of the hotel sector in the area.

The study considered the potential for new hotel development and the expansion, upgrading and retention of existing hotels.

Hotel Solutions submitted their final report, and associated documents, in July 2009. Those most relevant to Darlington Borough can be viewed or downloaded below:

The report will be part of the evidence base for Darlington’s emerging LDF, including the Core Strategy. For further information on the planning policy aspects of the study in respect of Darlington contact the Planning Policy Team on 01325 388644 or planning.policy@darlington.gov.uk
