Statement of Community Involvement in Planning

The Revised Statement of Community Involvement sets out how and when and whom the Council will consult at key stages in the plan-making and development management process and how communities can become involved.  The document was adopted on 18th March 2010.

The Council welcomes the Government’s guidelines that require councils to consult far more extensively than before, both in deciding what goes into planning policy documents and before making decisions on planning applications.  Councils must set out their proposals in their Statement of Community Involvement.

Darlington Borough Council adopted its first Statement of Community Involvement in November 2005.  Since its adoption, the Government issued new regulations (2008) and related policy guidance that changed the way in which LDF documents should be prepared.  In light of this, the Revised SCI was prepared, which was also updated to reflect changes to development management procedures, processes and protocols, and the Council’s own organisational changes.
