Making Places and Accommodating Growth Development Plan Document

The Making Places DPD (previously known as the Making Places and Accommodating Growth DPD) is a key part of the Local Development Framework.

It will identify new sites for housing, employment, shops, open space, sports facilities and other infrastructure as well as identifying those unique parts of the Borough that will be protected from new development. Development limits for the urban area and all the villages will also be identified.

It will also set out detailed planning policies that will help assess planning applications.

Making Places  and Accommodating Growth Development Plan Document

The Making Places and Accommodating Growth DPD: Preferred Options is currently being prepared. It will identify new sites for housing, employment, shops, open space, sports facilities and other infrastructure as well as identifying those unique parts of the Borough that will be protected from new development. Development limits for the urban area and all the villages will also be established. It will also set out detailed planning policies that will help assess planning applications.  We are hoping to consult on the Making Places and Accomodating Growth DPD in Autumn 2012.

All previous consultation responses on the Accommodating Growth: Issues and Options DPD and the Making Places and Accommodating Growth DPD Scoping Report will be taken into account when producing the new plan.

Darlington Local Brownfield Strategy - Nov 2011

In the summer of 2011, Darlington Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency jointly commissioned Thomas Lister to prepare a Brownfield Strategy for Darlington.

The purpose of the Strategy is to examine the problems associated with the delivery of development on brownfield land in Darlington by studying 12 representative brownfield sites.

This report considers the potential future uses of these sites, the existing barriers to development and makes recommendations to overcome these barriers in the context of current market conditions and constrained public sector funding.

The analysis and results of the Strategy will be used to inform the Making Places and Accommodating Growth Development Plan Document.
