Completed Areas
- Paving at the west end of Bondgate was completed in July and has allowed the new space to be used as the site for the monthly Farmers Market.
- Work is now complete on a new crossing on Crown Street to facilitate pedestrians getting to the Cornmill car park and TK Maxx.
- Duke Street has seen the first of the rising bollards become operational, the system controlling access to the Town Centre via a link with the CCTV unit.
Work in Progress
- Works have progressed well on Northgate from Crown Street to Prospect Place with the paving now completed, street lighting and furniture now installed. Allowing the space to be used for the French and Christingle markets. Further work is required to make rising bollards operational and install gateway pillars to allow the whole section to be complete. New paving and bus shelters have now been installed on Prebend Row with bus services resuming from 19 November.
- Following the temporary removal of the Joseph Pease Statue at the southern end of Bondgate/Prospect Place work is almost complete for both the paving of the area and the installation of a radius planter around the central events space.
- On Tubwell Row, areas of paving are now complete. The area outside the indoor market has been completed to allow market stalls to be sited here. Further down Tubwell Row, the Blue Badge parking bay is nearing completion.
- Work continues on High Row to lay new steps between the High Row and West Row with the first area already unveiled! Construction is in progress to create a pump room and supporting structure to service the new water feature. With much of this complete, work will soon be able to begin on installing the granite steps to the cascade.
- Paving of the road and footway on Blackwellgate is now complete with paving work complete in the Life Pulse area, an interactive piece of art involving five light columns which the public will be able to touch to make them pulse in time with their heart beats due to be installed in the Spring. A new bus stop has also been installed in Blackwellgate and is operational.
- Works are also underway on upper Northgate to re-pave the area. This has begun with kerb works, which may lead to temporary alterations. to bus stops, but it is hoped that disruption can be kept to a minimum.
- Works are ongoing on West Row, with the footpath outside the indoor market almost complete, workers will be able to move on to prepare and pave the roadway.
