Pedestrian Heart: Changes to Bus Services & Vehicle Access

Since September 2005, various changes have taken place in Darlington town centre in preparation for Pedestrian Heart construction works.  Bus services and traffic were affected as follows.
  

Buses

Taxis

So far there have been no changes in relation to taxi rank locations.  Any future changes will be advertised in advance in Town Crier editions.
  

Blue Badge Holders

There is now no Blue Badge on-street parking in the Pedestrian Heart areas of the town centre except in designated bays.  Blue Badge holders will continue to be able to park in Skinnergate as per existing arrangements and will continue to enjoy up to three hours free parking in all Council controlled car parks.

Private Vehicles

The Crown Street car park is only accessible via Stonebridge/Crown Street.  Exit from the car park will be allowed via Stonebridge/Crown Street OR Crown Street/East Street.  Access to the following streets will not be available for private vehicle use at any time:

  • Bondgate east of Abbotts Yard
  • Northgate south of Crown Street
  • Crown Street west of Quebec Street
  • West Row
  • High Row
  • Post House Wynd
  • Blackwellgate (accessed via Skinnergate)
  • Access to the following one-way streets is available at all time:
  • Houndgate (one-way from Grange Road to Feethams)
  • East Street (one-way from Crown Street to the JJB entrance)
      

Service/Delivery Vehicles

Service/delivery vehicle access to the following streets will be available before 10am and after 5pm:

  • Bondgate east of Abbotts Yard (accessed via Northgate)
  • Northgate (accessed via inner ringroad)
  • Crown Street (accessed via Northgate)
  • High Row (accessed via Skinnergate)
  • Post House Wynd (accessed via Skinnergate)
  • Blackwellgate (accessed via Skinnergate)

Please note that all service/deliveries are to be completed before 10am and the vehicles are to have left the area by by this time.

Deliveries will only be permitted from designated loading bays in the following streets:

  • Church Row/Feethams
  • Crown Street (accessed via Northgate)
  • Quebec Street
  • Priestgate
  • Tubwell Row
  • Bondgate
  • Houndgate (accessed via Grange Road and Beaumont St.)
  • Coniscliffe Road (accessed via Grange Road)

Loading/unloading in these bays will only be permitted for a maximum 30 minutes.  Service/delivery vehicle arrangements in Skinnergate will temporarily remain as existing.

No Vehicle Access

There is no motor vehicle access to West Row and Prebend Row (north of Priestgate) at any time.
