Airport Development Scheme
The Scheme
Durham Tees Valley Airport [external link] (formerly Teesside International Airport) is located six miles east of Darlington, near Middleton St. George. In 2003 the Airport handled approximately 750,000 passengers.
In 2003 a new partnership was agreed between six local authorities and Peel Airports, with Peel Airports Ltd acquiring a 75% interest in the Airport. The agreement set in place by this new partnership will lead to approximately £20 million-worth of investment in the Airport, which will be spent improving the terminal and infrastructure, for a projectable growth to 3 million passengers a year by 2015.
Tees Valley Regeneration [external link] is working with Peel Investment Ltd to service the land for development and £12 million has been allocated from English Partnerships and ONE NorthEast [external link] to aid site development.
