Airport Development Scheme

The Scheme

Durham Tees Valley Airport (formerly Teesside International Airport) is located six miles east of Darlington, near Middleton St. George.  In 2003 the Airport handled approximately 750,000 passengers.

In 2003 a new partnership was agreed between six local authorities and Peel Airports, with Peel Airports Ltd acquiring a 75% interest in the Airport.  The agreement set in place by this new partnership will lead to approximately £20 million-worth of investment in the Airport, which will be spent improving the terminal and infrastructure, for a projectable growth to 3 million passengers per year by 2015.

Tees Valley Regeneration is working with Peel Investment Ltd to service the land for development and £12 million has been allocated from English Partnerships and ONE NorthEast to aid site development.
