Buildings at Risk

Local Planning Authorities nationally are encouraged to publish a Buildings At Risk register in order to monitor the condition of listed buildings within the Local Planning Authority’s area.  Each authority has a statutory duty to ensure the protection of its stock of listed buildings.

The “at risk” status of a listed building may be due to a number of factors, such as the lack of a regular maintenance regime, vacancy of the building, with the subsequent vandalism, theft of architectural features (such as staircases, doors, fireplaces and other fixtures and fittings) or arson, that may follow.

31 such buildings in the Darlington Borough have been identified.
