Can’t find the record you need ?

Prior to July 1837

For records prior to July 1837 we suggest that you contact local churches and chapels or contact your local archive. The Library in Darlington has a local studies section containing a large amount of information which you may find useful.

Boundary Changes

Since 1837, the Darlington Borough boundary has changed on several occasions resulting in some of the rural areas of Darlington eg. Hurworth having moved to another Registration District. Therefore if you are unable to find an entry for a birth death of marriage which you believe occurred in such a rural area, you may need to consult a neighbouring Registration District as detailed in the following section.

Outside of Darlington

North East Births Deaths and Marriages- Access to Registration Districts between Northumberland to The Yorkshire Borders.

Yorkshire Births, Deaths and Marriages

General Register Office - A central resource of all birth, death and Marriage Records for England and Wales from 1837 onwards.
