CDRP Activity

To reduce Criminal Damage the CDRP has developed a new action plan. The action plan is aimed particularly at reducing damage to vehicles and reducing arson. Criminal Damage to buildings, such as Graffiti is also covered by the action plan.

By working to reduce Vehicle Crime the CDRP believes it will reduce the amount of criminal damage committed against vehicles too. The CDRPs action plans include actions from the Police, Fire and Rescue Service and Council and have overlaps with the other priority areas outlined here.

Arson

Arson is a serious problem in Darlington and accounts for a large proportion of our Criminal Damage incidents. There are a number of things the CDRP has introduced to reduce arson, targeted at reducing the amount of deliberate fire setting in public spaces.

The Council has introduced its policy of fining people who fly tip or put their bin bags out before they are due for collection to reduce the opportunities for people to set them alight. The Fire Service is working in schools to educate children about the dangers of fire and to develop children’s awareness of hazards.

The fire service also offers free home safety checks and smoke alarm fittings.
