Theft

The CDRP is using intelligence to tackle theft, by putting resources into hotspot areas and helping people to make their property less attractive to opportunistic thieves.

Don’t be a victim

  • Lock your bicycle to a secure bike rack. Make sure you lock both the frame and any quick release wheels to the rack, otherwise you may return to find only part of your bike.
  • Keep mobile phones and music player in your pocket while outside.
  • Protect valuable items by registering them with Immobilise. Here you can record the serial number of electrical goods so if they are stolen you can increase your chances of getting the goods back.
  • Keep it Safe, Keep it hidden, Keep it Locked  - Advice Booklet from the Home Office

CDRP Activity

The CDRP are developing additional intelligence capacity, by employing an analyst, this will allow information about the types of theft occurring where and when to be filtered to partners. By targeting resources in areas with the most crime we hope to be able to reduce it further.

Wardens now patrol Darlington, looking out for and reporting suspicious behaviour. A number of property marking events have been held over the last year, where people have been invited to bring along valuable items so they can be marked, this deters thieves as the goods can then be traced if they are found. Police Community Support Officers have led on these events giving crime prevention advice in many areas of the town.
