North Road Improvement Scheme

09/05/12: A footpath on North Road (on the western side of North Road from the railway bridge and Whessoe Road) will be closed until Friday August 17th. An alternative pedestrian route will be clearly signed during the closure. Access to local businesses will not be affected and businesses will be able to trade as usual.

15/02/12: The next phase of the construction works will require the contractors (Lumsden Carrol) to close the footway on the eastern side of North Road, between the railway bridge and the north side of Albert Road until Friday August 17th.

Please visit the North Road Improvements website [external link] for more information.

The North Road Bus Priority Scheme will start on Monday 16th January. The work is expected to take 9 months to complete.

Once completed the scheme will speed up journeys for all vehicles using North Road, by improving the junctions at Albert Road and Whessoe Road.

We are taking every effort to minimise the disruption to motorists and bus services; however it is likely that there will be some disruption to traffic during the construction period. We will give you as much notice of this as possible, and advise that you allow extra time for your journey.

The North Road Bus Priority Scheme is part of the £57.6m Department for Transport funded Tees Valley Bus Network Improvement Project, a package of measures aimed at improving the reliability and punctuality of bus services across the Tees Valley. It will also benefit motorists, pedestrians and cyclists by improving a key junction on the Darlington road network.
