Information for Employers

Darlington Borough Council Learning and Skills Team offers a range of training opportunities in a variety of vocations to give people the chance to gain useful on and off-the-job experience and training.

Apprenticeships will enable people to gain nationally recognised qualifications, whilst being employed and paid in their chosen environment.

Elev8 [pdf document] courses are designed to support and develop young people aged 16 – 18 to gain employability skills, personal development skills and work experience to progress to an Apprenticeship, further training or employment.

Employment Information - Apprenticeships

All learners will be employed for the duration of the course on a minimum wage of £2.68 per hour for a minimum of 30 hours per week.  All learners will receive a minimum of 20 days holiday per year and sign an Apprenticeship Agreement detailing the terms and conditions of their employment.

Training Programme - Apprenticeships

All learners will work towards the theory aspects whilst in the training centre and gain the skills and knowledge required for the role in the workplace.

They will complete an NVQ, a Diploma / Certificate in their chosen area and Functional Skills in order to fulfil the requirements of their Apprenticeship Framework.

Training Programme – Elev8

All learners will attend the training centre 2 days per week and will work towards an employability award, vocational qualifications and functional skills.  This will develop their skills and make them ready for their chosen pathway.

All learners will take part in a work placement to prepare them for work. You will be paid £20 per week based on attendance and achievement.

Health and Safety/Equality and Diversity/Safeguarding

We will ensure that all learners undertake all the required Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding training and are aware of the issues and importance of this in the workplace and learning environment.
