The Governing Body seeks to make the above appointment to start on 19th April 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful candidate will work within our Year 5/6 phase in school as a general teaching assistant under the direction of the phase leader and class teachers. On occasions there will be the responsibility of whole class teaching for short periods e.g. to cover a PPA slot, whilst a teacher is out of school on training. Therefore strong subject knowledge is required as well as a positive and resilient personality.

We are committed to improving the overall quality of the 500 Km of roads and 600 Km of footpaths across the Borough and require an enthusiastic and experienced person to join the highway inspection team.

Your duties will include carrying out safety inspections of the highway, determining and inspecting any remedial works and maintaining appropriate records. You will also be involved with the New Roads and Streetworks Act, third party insurance claims, public complaints/reports, local flooding matters and emergency call out.

Candidates should be numerate, literate and be comfortable using a computer. Previous experience as a highway inspector and/or an appropriate trade background is desirable.
Work outside of normal office hours is required.

Applicants should hold a current driving licence and a vehicle will be provided to carry out the duties.

Duties include the supervision of a small but very busy section dealing with the receipt and processing of applications (both in person and by post) for a range of licences relating to premises, vehicles and people, maintaining accurate statistical data, assisting in the preparation of reports for the Council’s Licensing Committee and external agencies. Accuracy and attention to detail is important, and also the ability to work to deadlines

Local Authority licensing experience is essential, in particular the licensing of hackney carriage and private hire drivers, vehicles and operators and also the licensing of premises in accordance with the Licensing Act 2003 and the Gambling Act 2005.
