We are looking to recruit an experienced Social Work Practitioner into our generic team who provide the out of hours Emergency Duty Social Work Service covering evenings, weekends and bank holidays. The Service Operator is Stockton on Tees Borough Council, Children Education & Social Care, with four neighbouring Local Authorities purchase the service provided.

You must have a relevant professional qualification in social work and be registered with the GSCC. With post-qualification experience in childcare/protection work and/or Approved Mental Health Professional status under Mental Health Legislation. You will bring with you a track record of success and preferably an understanding of the generic nature of the incoming work of an out of hours service.

In addition, you will need drive and enthusiasm to work in this strategically important service at a time of increasing demands, challenges and service developments. You must be able to effectively communicate in the multi-agency environment.

Darlington Borough Council has been successful in its bid for funding through the Department for Transport's Local Sustainable Transport Fund. Over the next three years we will be rolling out an extensive programme of events, activities and information in schools, workplaces and in the local community.

The Travel Advisors will provide information and advice on walking, cycling and using buses and trains. Much of this work will involve calling at houses within an area, engaging in a conversation about how people currently travel and identifying where there are opportunities to make changes to help people get fitter, save money or reduce their carbon footprint.

This post will be seasonal and the Travel Advisors will be working full time between March and October each year depending upon the rate of contact with households. Over the three years the project will cover all households in Darlington Borough and also all households in Newton Aycliffe, Shildon and Bishop Auckland. The Travel Advisors will work in a team of 8 people and will have regular contact with both staff from Darlington Borough Council and Durham County Council.

You will need to have enthusiasm and be self motivated and have an ability to plan your own time. Experience of working with people in a customer service type role is essential.

Full training will be given to all successful candidates.
