Mowden Park RFC (Northern Echo Arena)

Muckle LLP
The last 12 months have been momentous across the world and particularly in UK politics – the key driver for UK employment law change historically. The only certainty is uncertainty and the coming years are likely to need UK employers to be able to adapt quickly to change. There’s been a general slowdown in reported employment appeal tribunal and other appellate court decisions over recent years. We expect the government to have little appetite for change given the need to focus on Brexit and The Great Repeal Bill. Our sessions this year will therefore focus on the key areas where employers across all sectors face challenges including: 1. gender pay gap reporting and the increased focus on equal pay issues; 2. dealing with competing protected characteristics under the Equality Act; 3. the ongoing pay, hours and holidays uncertainty; 4. planning for the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) 5. what Brexit might mean for employers; and 6. the need to know cases and legal developments.

This is an exclusive opportunity for Darlington businesses to get a sneak peak, ‘behind the scenes’ tour of Darlington Hippodrome, which is set to reopen to the public in November coming, having undergone a £12m restoration project. The project will see the introduction of new meeting spaces, family café, bar, coffee shop and creative play spaces, turning the theatre into both a daytime and night-time place to visit. Located in a conservation area, Darlington Hippodrome is a Grade II Listed Edwardian building and is significant for its place in telling the industrial and social history of the foundling railway town of Darlington as well as being the most complete surviving example of the unique 'house style' of architects Owen & Ward. The project has repaired, restored and revitalised the theatre to include the restoration of the distinctive exterior of the theatre and the beautiful Edwardian auditorium, a modern new entrance and promenade gallery, celebrating its heritage, the creation of a stunning vaulted function room in the former water tower, as well as improved seating with more leg room and disabled access, including two lifts providing access to all levels both front and back of house. There will also be an increase in seats to 1000, which together with improved back stage facilities for touring companies, will enable larger shows to be accommodated. A new education centre and improved public spaces will support a vibrant new range of daytime learning and engagement activities. Unfortunately as the building is still a designated construction site, for Health & Safety reasons, those with mobility issues will be provided a separate tour after opening, when the building is fully accessible. Hard hats and safety footwear will be provided, so we will need to obtain shoe sizes ahead of the day. Tickets are offered on a first come-first served basis, are not guaranteed, and are strictly limited to 2 tickets per business.
