What will Year 11 be like?
Year 11 is where it should all be coming together. You've got a lot on your plate this year and so you'll receive a lot of help and support from Connexions Tees Valley. Whatever your situation, don't panic! We'll be there to help out.
To help you in Year 11 we've provided this quick guide to help you plan what you should to!
Autumn Term
Look at options available
Go to your local Connexions Tees Valley careers event and speak to those in the know and pick their brains. Let them know what you can offer them and ask what they can offer you. You might be surprised!
- Go to college open events and visits.
- Think about your choices, and discuss ideas with your parents and teachers.
- If you are uncertain, arrange to see your careers advisers to get the help you need.
- You will receive your National Insurance number just before your 16th birthday.
- Start to apply for colleges and apprenticeships - it's never too early to start!
Spring Term
- Keep making applications for jobs and college.
- Offers of college places begin to arrive. Find out what financial support you could be entitled to!
- Interviews and aptitude tests begin.
- One Stop Shops start to receive summer vacancies, so see what's available!
- Start making applications for Foundation Modern Apprenticeships and training.
- Revise for your exams.
Summer Term
- Offers of job-training places are now being made.
- Take your GCSE exams.
- See your adviser again if you need to.
- Complete your Record of Achievement.
- Official school leaving date is the last Friday in June.
- Start of some jobs and training.
And then
- Jobs and training start.
- GCSE and other exam results are published (good luck!).
- Connexions Tees Valley advisers are still available for help if needed.
- College courses start soon.
What help can I get from Connexions Tees Valley?
You should receive an information pack that details information about post-16 options.
You will have at least one careers interview with your personal advisor. Some students will need more time and help with their personal adviser than others.
You will receive written advice that provides details of your career goals and objectives. Your personal adviser will also be available at parents' evenings to offer help and advice.
