Whether your interview is for a job, Advanced or Foundation Modern Apprenticeship, Job Training or a course at college, the most important thing is preparation.
You never get a second chance to make a good first impression!
Here are some things to consider when preparing for an interview:
- What you wear.
- What you know about the company.
- What questions you will be asked.
- What you can offer the company.
- What questions you want to ask.
- How you will get to the interview.
- What you will need to take along (e.g. Record of Achievement).
On the day:
- Arrive early.
- Dress professionally, not fashionably.
- Make eye contact, look interested and smile!
- Only sit down when asked, and sit upright!
- The employer will understand that you are nervous, but try to reply to all questions asked as fully as possible.
Also:
- Make up a list of questions you want to ask and have it ready for reference.
- Answer questions positively and as fully as possible.
- Pause and think about answers, and ask the interviewer to repeat a question if you are unsure.
- Use examples as proof.
- State your opinions clearly and simply. If you don't know the answer to a question, say so.
- Be honest, and if you don't get the job, don't give up!
Good luck!!
