Job Interviews

Whether your interview is for a job, Advanced or Foundation Modern Apprenticeship, Job Training or a course at college, the most important thing is preparation.

You never get a second chance to make a good first impression!

Here are some things to consider when preparing for an interview:

  • What you wear.
  • What you know about the company.
  • What questions you will be asked.
  • What you can offer the company.
  • What questions you want to ask.
  • How you will get to the interview.
  • What you will need to take along (e.g. Record of Achievement).

On the day:

  • Arrive early.
  • Dress professionally, not fashionably.
  • Make eye contact, look interested and smile!
  • Only sit down when asked, and sit upright!
  • The employer will understand that you are nervous, but try to reply to all questions asked as fully as possible.

Also:

  • Make up a list of questions you want to ask and have it ready for reference.
  • Answer questions positively and as fully as possible.
  • Pause and think about answers, and ask the interviewer to repeat a question if you are unsure.
  • Use examples as proof.
  • State your opinions clearly and simply. If you don't know the answer to a question, say so.
  • Be honest, and if you don't get the job, don't give up!

Good luck!!
